Recently, cocktail celebrity Dorothy Elizabeth opened Straylight, a new bar in Chinatown. Straylight features a la carte and tasting menus that required Elizabeth to rely on her degrees in mathematics and organic chemistry. Elizabeth collaborated on the menu with another famous cocktailier Jamie Jones. Drinks, such as the “shiso dumbo” offer a sense of whimsy while still being made with top-shelf ingredients such as coconut-washed gin with lemon. Straylight’s cocktails are definitely on the pricey end, ranging from $15 to $27.
- Dorothy Elizabeth has used her degrees in organic chemistry and mathematics to design unusual cocktails.
- Torched orange peel, arranged like a blossom, is one of the stunning and playful visual presentations of an original Dorothy Elizabeth cocktail.
- The flower houses rye whiskey, which melds beautifully with the scent of orange, as the drinker imbibes.
“Freeman and Lowe have revisited their “Stray Light” exhibit from a few years back, bringing in that same fun house vibe to a Pepto-pink, fluorescent-lit staircase that depicts a fictitious wellness center. It’s lined with fake wellness products and posters like a trippy zombie ad with a phone number that, when called, leads to a real estate agency.”
