Making a small apartment work as a suitable living space can be tricky, but it is not impossible. There are a few key mandates that every small apartment dweller should live by in order to exist happily in their living space. First of all, any and all clutter must be thoroughly eliminated. Create a system for organization, and stick with it. Wherever possible, utilize multipurpose furniture items that can serve two or more functions at once (i.e. a storage ottoman). Choose color schemes wisely, avoiding any colors that might add to claustrophobia. Take advantage of wall space as much as possible through the use of floating shelves, pegboards, or any other similar products that will help maximize your space. Don’t make all your furniture small in size—add some larger statement pieces into the mix too! Also, try to choose airy style furniture pieces to keep the space open. Get into the habit of regularly cleaning. Be sure and regularly take time to get out of the apartment, breathe, and explore the world around you. Finally, even on the most frustrating of days, remember to have a sense of humor!
- Lots of clutter laying around your apartment will make it feel and look even smaller than it already is, so it is essential to keep your space free of clutter
- Invest time (and, if needed, money) into creating a system of organization that you will be able to follow so that your apartment stays neat and organized
- Take time to carefully consider how color choices will impact the overall space and remember especially that dark hues will make the apartment feel and look even smaller
“Enjoy your efficient, cozy and charming space and make it the best you can.”
